Visual Math

Maths explained the way I needed to see it: with the graph next to the formula.

I wrote this as a manuscript in Romania in 2005–2006, while tutoring children aged 8 to 18. What started it was Mathcad — the first time I could see a graph appear on demand instead of drawing it by hand. I moved to MATLAB later, for the exports. Then the whole thing became one unmanageable pile of Word files and I stopped.

This site is that manuscript, brought back.

Where this is up to

The book is 25 chapters across three parts. They are being restored one at a time, and this is an early state — expect gaps.

  • Algebra — functions, quadratics, complex numbers, logarithms, polynomials, linear algebra
  • Analysis — sequences, limits, continuity, derivatives, integrals, differential equations
  • Geometry & Trigonometry — analytic geometry, trigonometric identities

About the equations

Every formula here is the original 2006 typesetting, re-rendered from the source at high resolution rather than reused as a screenshot. The old exports were 72 DPI and would look soft on a modern display.

The equations are currently images. They are sharp at any zoom, but they are not yet selectable text, and search will not find them. Converting them to live LaTeX is in progress — the maths is recoverable, it just needs the last of the 1990s MathType format decoded.

About the language

The manuscript was written in Romanian. It is being translated to English as each chapter is restored, keeping the standard English terms rather than literal translations — quadratic function rather than function of the second degree.
